MICRO MAKER FAIRE WALES: CALL FOR PARTICIPANTS

May You Live in Interesting Times, Festival of Creative Technology, Cardiff. 22-24 October 2009.

May You Live in Interesting Times is a biennial Festival that this year is exploring do-it-yourself through a range of commissions, projects, exhibitions, discussions and artist-led events across all art forms.

The three-day programme is a celebration of the latest intriguing uses of everyday technology and social innovation, enabled through shared ideas. Information about the programme is available at www.mayyouliveininterestingtimes.org.uk

A core event in this year's programme is a two-day Maker Faire and we are looking for makers to take part. Along the lines of Makers and Hackers, Folksy, Craft Mafia, Howduino, Oomlout and other get-together events for technical doers, the Micro Maker Faire is Wales first public event for DIY enthusiasts. Individuals and collectives are coming together to demonstrate their home brew technical concoctions.

Who: May You Live in Interesting Times is looking for DIY enthusiasts, makers, hackers, tinkerers, doers, crafters with a taste for the technical to participate in our Micro Maker Faire Wales.

When:Friday 23 and Saturday 24 October 2009, 11am-4pm

Where: Chapter Arts Centre, Market Road, Cardiff CF5 1QE, Wales, UK

Participation: The Micro Maker Faire is part village fete and part hands-on workshop. Confirmed participants include: The Amazing Rolo, Ele Carpenter, Chipboard Project, Carolyn Ryves, Dorkbot Bristol, Holly Davey and Richard Robinson, Kathy Hinde, Solarspin, Robert Bermingham, Kosbo, Friispray and Cefn Hoile. We are looking for a few more tinkerers to share in the fun.

The rules:

please read these before you apply

- You need to be available on Friday 23 and Saturday 24 October 2009

- You need to bring with you any materials that you might need

- You need to staff the stall between 11am and 4pm

- You can sell your gizmos and gadgetry from the Faire and keep all the profit

- You must have an element of hands-on, participatory activity as part of your stall ie visitors can make something, help build something with you, engage with the technology, etc - it's not just about selling - sharing is key!

- You can charge visitors a small contribution towards parts / materials if you are enabling them to make-their-own during the Faire.

How to apply: send us a link to your website or url to your work, and no more than 250 words telling us what you would like to do at the Faire.

Friday 18 September at 5pm
