AV festival is the UK's largest international festival of electronic arts, featuring visual art, music and moving image, running from 28 February – 8 March in venues across Newcastle, Gateshead, Middlesbrough and Sunderland. The festival has stated its theme will be 'Broadcast', timing the announcement to coincide with the first of the BBC's analogue to digital switchovers.
Several exciting participants have been confirmed, including:
Artist Marko Peljhan who telecommunications technology and has previously collaborated with the Russian Space Programme. His ambitious Makrolab projects have been installed in the inhospitable environments and remote locations around the world.
Radiophonia delves into radiophonic music techniques and features some of the pioneers of modern electronic music.
Australian artist Joyce Hinterding will wrap a Sunderaland gallery in twenty kilometres of copper wire, transforming it into a beautiful, operational radio antenna, listening to the earth.
