European funding opportunities for SMEs

A new funding call is open directed at SMEs as part of the EC Framework 7 Programme.

The call title is Research for SMEs Call 2 and is open to all research fields.  The call will supports innovative SMEs who want to solve technological problems.  Projects must be centered on the innovation needs of the SMEs, the SMEs will outsource the research to RTD performers and a clear exploitation potential for the SMEs concerned must be demonstrated.

The call opened on 30 November 2007 and the deadline for submission of bids is 11 April 2008.

Types of activities covered in the call

  • Research and technological development should form the core of the project. RTD performers should perform the bulk of  this work and SMEs should focus on initial specification and on testing and validation of project results
  • Demonstration activities - testing of product-like prototypes
  • Other activities to facilitate the take-up of results by SMEs especially training and dissemination

Participants

  • At lease 3 participants of any bid must be independent SMEs established in at least 3 Member States or Associated States.
  • At least 2 participants must be RTD performers (having the capacity to carry out research at the request of the SMEs), independent from any other participant.
