Today's Guardian reports that accessing social networking sites by mobile phone is expected to rise more than tenfold over the next five years, according to estimates by telecoms analyst Juniper Research.
Social networking has become one of the fastest-growing internet trends of the past two years. According to internet metrics firm Comscore, Facebook users increased 270% in the last year to more than 52 million users worldwide.
The main concern for mobile phone companies is pricing - once they offer flat-rate mobile internet access packages they may end up as sidelined as internet service providers have become in the fixed-line internet world.
