Michael B Johnson of Pixar launched the Creative Technology Network at Watershed in Bristol last night.
From Toy Story to Cars, Ratatouille to Finding Nemo, Pixar Animation Studios has produced some of the most successful films of the last decade. Once the computer graphics branch of Lucasfilm, Pixar’s unique commitment to collaboration and innovation has not only resulted in seven Academy Awards but also the development of industry standard animation software Renderman.
In this special event to launch the Creative Technology Network, Moving Pictures Group Lead Michael B. Johnson gave an illustrated behind the scenes glimpse into some of the programmes and applications developed by his team to enable the production of these award winning features. Michael previously worked for Thinking Machines, NCSA, and IBM and received his MA in Visual Studies and PhD in Media Arts & Sciences from MIT's Media Lab.
The event, the first of a series, began with a short overview of the network and was supported by South West Screen.
