Businesses in Devon, Cornwall, Bristol and Bath beat tough competition to win prizes at the Media Innovation Awards 2009, at a gala dinner held in Bristol to celebrate and recognise the innovative use of media and design in the region.
The award winners for 16 categories were announced, with Bristol's Pervasive Media Studio, a collaboration by Watershed and HP Labs, won the outstanding contribution to innovation category for bringing the creative community together and encouraging innovative collaborations; ‘Moosehunt’ produced by Simon Games for igfest won the mobile communications category for its brilliant and witty concept; and the BBC Natural History Unit was awarded the multiplatform category prize for producing ‘Big Cat Live’ and using technology to push the boundaries of natural history.
MIA stated that "the quality of entries was very high and the fact that the short-listed companies come from all over the region, from Poole in Dorset to Falmouth in Cornwall and from Bristol to Plymouth proves that the South West region is a centre of excellence for media and design."

Knowledge Transfer has the potential to play a central role in driving successful innovation across the creative industries. But what will it look like and how will it operate in five years time? This is one of the major issues that the Creative Industries KTN Beacon project “Unlocking Knowledge Transfer” will explore over the coming months.
We would like to invite you to take part in the first of a series of nationwide consultations that will build a vision of how Knowledge Transfer will help the creative industries.
The workshop, developed and delivered by Prospect, will be an interactive session of two hours, in which we will take a fast paced look at a number of questions, including:
- what do we mean by Knowledge Transfer?
- how do the creative industries currently share knowledge?
- what are the barriers to making knowledge transfer effective?
- how can we establish a value for KT in the creative industries?
- what effect is the advent of social networks having on KT?
We would very much value your attendance at this workshop. Your contributions as a professional and a practitioner will be essential to making this project a success.
